"To say Joey has been a great coach is a terrible understatement: Joey has changed my life. I decided to hire him in November of 2015 because I saw his calculated training methods, humble words and client success. Since then, he has not only been a fantastic coach, but a best friend. He saw potential in me and concentrated all of his efforts to make me as strong as I can be. While we live on opposite sides of the country, he does a better job analyzing my training and understanding what I need than a personal coach. Joey and I talk on a daily basis about my training. Joey is incredibly encouraging and makes sure we understand why we are doing what we do and is always open to discussing training specifics. He is an easy going and unbelievably intelligent coach, as well as a student of the sport who tirelessly seeks the knowledge of other great coaches and experts in the field of strength training. Every meet I have done has gone EXACTLY as we wanted them to. He calls perfect attempts and 3 meets in a row I have gone 8/9, which I had never done before. Since November 2015 my numbers have gone from a 525 squat, 295 bench and 550 deadlift to a 562 squat, 370 bench and a 617 deadlift. He has lead me to winning the teen division at nationals, receiving an invite to Raw IPF Worlds as an alternate and an invite to compete at the Arnold Pro American. He time after time demonstrates his love for his clients and will constantly fine tune our programs to make sure we succeed. He has built a family of lifters who all communicate and share progress. I'm lucky to call Joey my coach and lucky to call him a great friend."
"One thing I've valued the most from working with coach Joey is trusting the process. There are days when prepping for an upcoming meet were I doubt myself on performing well on the platform as a result of "accumulated fatigue". Weights in training that "should" feel easy end up feeling like RPE 9.5s, making me drop the weight and continuing on with the training. Most would say the program is not working and that they're getting weaker. Putting their blame on the coach and not realizing the bigger picture of the program. With Joey's guidance I've added 71 lbs to my total: 413 squat, 303 bench, and a 501 deadlift at a body weight of 130 lbs. One must trust the process and see the big picture from all the fatigued training days. Once that taper happens, boom! PRs!"
"After working with Joey for 12 weeks he helped me reach my long time goal of achieving a Wilks Score of higher than 400 by improving my overall total by 27.5 lbs. During that meet I got new personal records in all three lifts. Joey's communication was great both prior to the meet and during the meet. Although he was very busy during my meet and given that I am in a different time zone he still took time to talk to me during my meet. We have pointed out my weaknesses and my strengths and discussed how to improve my lifts. I look forward to working with Joey in 2016!"
"Joey is one of a kind. He truly cares about the people he coaches and will do anything to help them reach their goal. When I first stated working with Joey about a year ago I as very hesitant because, I live in Michigan and he lives in California. I wasn’t sure how things were going to workout, and if we were even going to communicate that often. During my first meet prep I was the one who lacked communication and Joey would sent me messages to see how I was doing. If you have a question or send him a video he gets back right away and never leaves you hanging. His workouts are intense and you have to be willing to put fourth 100% effort. With Joey you will see results and you will get stronger. He makes customizable workouts to help your weak points grow. This time last year I would have never imagined working with the kind of weight I do now. I would have never made it to Raw Nationals without him. Thank you for always being real with me Joey. "
"I never thought that I would end up competing in powerlifting to be honest. I never thought I would compete in any physically geared activity actually. Throughout my life I have gone through an athletic body in my youth to an overweight college body, through a weight loss adventure into a skinny fat runner’s body and eventually settling into a quasi-bodybuilding phase. About a year ago I made friends with a group of people whom trained in powerlifting and after talking to me about it for some time I decided I would give it a go. I developed a novice base in the months to come that built the confidence in me to go from “I would never compete” to actually signing up for my first USPA powerlifting meet, unfortunately my adventures in powerlifting came hand in hand with power eating and I found myself sitting uncomfortably heavy at 188 lbs. the heaviest I had been in years. When I signed up I knew I wanted to not only prepare properly for a meet with a knowledgeable strength coach but I also really wanted to strip off the weight I had managed to pack on.
Enter Joseph Ferratti Franzo
Introduced to me by a friend and Flexx Training Systems teammate, Joseph was welcoming, knowledgeable and upfront from the beginning. I reached out to several coaches and Joseph was the only one I felt instantly trusting of and comfortable with. I informed him I wanted to compete in the 165 weight class and he was straightforward in telling me it would require instant alignment with the program but that it was doable. In only 11 weeks under his guidance and keen directions on nutrition I was able to drop 22 pounds of real body weight and only needed to rely on water cutting a pound for competition. During prep I was never starving, I never felt like I couldn’t get through the challenging workouts he prescribed and I never felt like anything I was doing wasn’t good for my body. I dropped weight right and I got stronger doing it. I seriously say that Joseph’s program is magic because who gets leaner and stronger at the same time? I ended up weighing in underweight and achieved PR’s in every lift earning a class 1 total in my first meet qualifying me for another I really wanted to participate in. Additionally, 2 weeks post meet and a multiday music festival I still weigh in at comp weight and am hitting my lift numbers… No weight rebound or loss in strength because I started right back onto a subsequent program with Joseph and his guidance kept me on target. I can’t thank Joseph enough for constantly keeping me focused and headed towards my goals and leading me to a successful first meet and a body that I am proud of.
I can’t recommend him enough. He is a nutritional magician, a knowledgeable and caring coach who has proven over and over that he programs for strength and success and last but not least a genuine and honest person whom I cannot be more happy to have as my coach now and in the future. Joseph has given me the roadmap to strength and physique success that I would not be able to obtain without him. I know I can only get better with him leading the way.
"To anyone looking for a coach to help you get to 'Valhalla', Joey Franzo is the guy to go to. With the help of Joey, I went 9/9, totalled 1492 @ only 199lbs, and was runner up at USAPL Raw Nationals by only 5lbs. He taught me how to train effectively using RPE, and by doing this, I could train with lighter weights but still put up huge numbers come meet day. I couldn't have asked for anyone better for my first coach. His communication is great and always helps if I need a hand picking a weight during training. I couldn't have made it to the Arnold Classic without him! Thanks for everything Joey."
"My results working with Joseph are immeasurable. Besides of the physical turnout and finally competing, he was able to push me through my mental barriers and gave me the boost of confidence I needed inside and outside of the gym. He will test your will power, your limits, your level of commitment and how bad you really want to succeed. The process will have its low moments where you’ll want to do 3 reps instead of 5, or eat some Oreos and think it won’t make a difference on the scale, but Joseph will not let you quit, will not let you fall off the wagon. If you communicate with him wholeheartedly and are 100% truthful, there is no way you will lose. As I once said, “I don’t have another coach to compare him to but I cannot imagine having a better one.”

"Nine months ago I had zero powerlifting experience but I knew it was something I wanted to pursue. I knew I needed a coach that was truly knowledgeable, had a wealth of experience and had produced results for their clients. I researched and contacted different people about coaching but no one got back to me or I received a general response email. When I contacted Joey, he responded immediately and I could tell how genuine he was. He took the time to learn about me as a lifter and has always made me feel like an equal. Every training block has been customized to work on the areas I needed and wanted to improve on. When it comes to programming, Joey works with you to find out what days you want to have off or what seems to be working and what doesn't. The training is always tough but it is designed that way to make you perform better come meet day. Joey will let you know if your technique is off or call you out if you're not following the programming or RPE. He does this because he cares. He teaches you the proper way to lift, so you're safe and become the best lifter you can be. Even though I live in Michigan and Joey is out in Cali, he has always been there for me and never let me down. TeamJoeyFlexx is much more than a team, it is a family. We build each other up, teach each other and always have fun. The family atmosphere Joey created is definitely the most underrated part of working with Joey but it is definitely one of my favorite parts. Trust the process, trust the taper, follow the RPE, and most importantly trust and listen to Joey."
"This isnt a post to boast or to put others down. But just to give a bit of scope on my experience working with Joseph Ferratti Franzo I have worked with some of the 'best' powerlifting coaches in my country, who all had great skills ad are excellent coaches. I myself currently coach the number 1 ranked bench presser in powerlifting Australia (IPF fed in oz) as well as multiple male and female powerlifting Australia record holders and APL (uspa affiliate) record holders and national champs and I have NEVER EVER felt as strong, educated and supported as an athlete as I do now working with Joey and this group. This morning i pulled triple BW for the first time in ages. Joey is a top level coach, not afraid to point out mistakes but always in a constructive way. By far the best coach I have associated with in the PL world."
"Coaching is very underrated in powerlifting. If you have a good coach who knows what he’s doing, you’re unstoppable. Six months before I hired joey as a coach I made the mistake of thinking I didn’t need one. I was very wrong, I went into a meet with absolutely no guidance and I went 4/9. Going 4/9 at a meet was heartbreaking. Two months after this happened, I hired joey as a coach and it was the best choice I ever made. After four months of working with him I did the USAPL California State Championship. When the time came, I was ready mentally and physically. I went 9 for 9 and hit an 85 pound P.R. Total. Joey is a great coach and can bring out your highest level of potential if you are patient and listen to him."
“Where to even begin? Joseph Franzo has to be one of the most underrated powerlifting coaches in the game right now. After having gone through a full meet prep with him, I find myself feeling as if I’m in on some secret that not many others know about. You couldn’t ask for a better coach. It’s such a great feeling to put all your trust and faith into someone and having it all pay off in the end.
He has helped me become a completely new lifter. My form, my technique, and my mind set has all changed while under his guidance. I’ve learned that being patient is definitely key and that proper technique is always better than being a brute with the weights. In my very first powerlifting meet, I totaled 1350 while going 8/9 at 235lbs bodyweight. This is a 70LB PR over my previous unofficial gym total. During the prep, I lost close to 20lbs with no strength loss at all. By the time my next prep is over, my total weight loss will be over 30lbs and I’m willing to guarantee my total will increase by a large number yet again. Through Joey, I’ve gained more confidence in not just the gym but in normal day to day life as well and I physically feel better than I ever have before. We’re just getting started Coach."
